AO Australia....Philippines Greg was self-taught by stepping off a single ski to barefoot water ski just after turning 15 years of age during late 1965, and was timed into the Australian Barefoot Water Ski Club by Joe Csortan in June 1968. (Member number 899) He taught himself how to do deep water starts, tumble turns, rope on toes, neck and teeth tricks etc. and competed in his first Australian National Titles in 1969 in Novice Men’s division coming 4th overall. 1970 he skied Encourage Men’s division and then Open Men’s division in 1971 and 1972. He had to retire from the sport re health during the latter part of 1972 after having a serious accident in a barefoot slalom competition losing his wet suit shorts doing a tumble turn recovery from a fall! (His only crazy trick he started doing just prior to his accident were Rope in Teeth Deep Water Starts and he still has his special homemade teeth handle!) Greg resumed barefoot competitions again at a national level in 2006 and hopes to compete more often starting in 2019, aged 67, and also hoping to improve on his national medal count from only 3! He was a Foundation member in 1968 of the South Australian Barefoot Water Ski Club and represented his state at the Moomba Masters in 1971.He has won many medals in state competitions and a few overall titles and Greg's favorite event was the jump. His only barefoot coach has been Garry Barton in the early 70's and Greg has been trying since 2012 to get Garry inducted into the IWWF Hall of Fame as the true pioneer of modern barefooting as we know it today. Over the years Greg has been involved with water ski racing competing for 8 years, raced his mono powerboats with success and in 1975 smashed the Australian Offshore Power Boat record from Sydney to Brisbane by nearly 9 hours! In recent years as a pioneer, he has been trying to introduce water skiing, wakeboarding and barefoot water skiing into the Philippines but this was delayed late 2013 due to the Super Typhoon, Haiyan Yolanda ...He is aiming at finally starting his new venture called “Water Ski Philippines Corp” situated near Basey, Samar, mid 2020.
